AW: I am learning to box... sort of.

My knee is officially effed.  The chances of me not needing surgery are basically zero.  The orthopaedic surgeon thinks that my LCL might be detached and my meniscus has him worried.  Which is awesome.  I have basically pulled everything except my ACL and will be doing physio and wearing a hinged brace for "the foreseeable future" he then told me that my knee wouldn't have the strength to slam on the brakes without giving out so he said that I was no longer allowed to drive until my knee was repaired.  Sweet.  That doesn't make my life suck at all or anything.

Anyway in his total destruction my freedom he told me that I wasn't allowed to use any cardio equipment at the gym or do any exercises that involve my legs because he didn't want any stress on my knee beyond walking short distances.  I told my trainer and she said, "Oh, okay cool, I have a plan.  Don't stop coming in."  So my entire workout is done sitting or lying on a bench.  And for Cardio she is teaching me to box.  While sitting down.  When my knee is better she is going to keep it up.  So yesterday I learned to punch.  Next week she is getting me pink gloves and is hanging a heavy bag in the dance studio at the gym where I will be boxing twice a week.  I am super stoked!

  • Hang in there.  Knee surgery is pretty easy to bounce back from (If you aren't a pro athlete and need your knee to make a living).  My mom just had knee surgery this week and she is walking around very well already.
