Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How long/how many naps for your 3 month old?

How many naps does your 3 month old take in a day, and how long do they average? DS is so inconsistent, but lately I can't stretch them past 45 minutes, with a grand total of about 4 hours of daytime sleep by the time bedtime rolls around. It is the low end of average for his age based on many of the sleep books. His night sleep isn't bad. He's up around 12 and 4:30 to eat and goes right back to sleep. But part of me wonders if he would actually sleep better at night if he got more day sleep. Although whenever I think I got this kid figured out, he changes the game on me! Tongue Tied

  • I have a catnapper too. Most ot the time its like 3 or 4 naps ranging from a half hour to 45 minutes. On a really good day, he'll nap for an hour to hour and a half, but that's not the norm for him!

  • DS is 4 months now, but he's always taken short naps throughout the day. He naps 3-4 times most days, anywhere from 20 mins to an hour if I'm lucky. He doesn't always sleep through the night, but I find when he sleeps more during the day, that's when he sleeps better at night.

  • 3-4 naps consisting of about 2 hours each.

She was the same as your LO at 3 months and then gradually started taking longer naps.

This is my guy too. He's been like this since birth. I can set a timer by his naps - 30 minutes and up. At 3 months he would be ready to go back down after about 1 hr and a half.

  • They vary from 30 min-3 hrs. He goes down between 60-90 min after waking. So the number of naps each day is different. From weeks 8-12, he only took 3-45 min naps, but lately he's been napping longer. However, night sleep has not been great.

this. Sometimes longer if she is in someones arms but we try not to do that.

  • DD gets 2 good naps that last anywhere from 1-3.5 hours. Typically 2+ hours. She also gets 1-2 little naps in the evening when we go for an evening walk (we babywear so she always falls asleep on walks). These naps are anywhere from 30mins to 1hr.

  • a normal sleep cycle is 30-45 minutes.  because I have DD, we are out most of the morning doing things for her or running errands.  DS will sleep on and off with probably 2 x 30 min snoozes in there.  When we're home for DDs nap around 1:00, he will sleep for 2-3 hrs.  if he wakes after a short sleep cycle, I put his paci in and shush him, and if that doesn't work, I rock him for a few minutes and he goes back down.  he also goes down at like 6:30-7:00 with one, sometimes two, MOTN feedings.  kid likes his sleep.  thank the sweet Lord!  DD, on the otherhand was a total cat napper and didn't sleep through the night until 9 months, and was up multiple times a night.  it really varies on the kid, but I would definitely try to get him back down after a short sleep cycle, especially if it's middle/later in the day.  from my experience, sleep definitely begets sleep.
