napping is SO inconsistent

does anyone else have a very inconsistent napper? I'm not too concerned about putting her on a strict schedule (other than it would be convenient for me!) but LO is still all over the place as far as naps. She is an excellent sleeper at night, so I don't want to complain (and honestly I'd much rather her sleep at night than during the day) but I can't figure this girl out.

She is normally up for the day at 7:30 and goes back down for a nap at 8:30 or 8:45 when I see that first yawn but other than that it's a total crap shoot. She may sleep for 15 minutes, she may sleep for 3 hours. The rest of the day she may nap 4 times or only once more and there's no predicting how long she'll be out for. Any signs I should look for, other than the obvious, or tricks of the trade to get this girl to nap after she eats and plays?? Thanks!!

I can relate, my DD is napping at various times currently.  Very similar to your LO's schedule, plus she is very clingy and a bit fussy.  I think she is getting ready to grow again, plus starting to teethe.  So it may just be part of a growth spurt getting ready or teething issues.  We just rotate her through arms, swing, crib, jumper, vibrating seat, anything that she seems to like really.  Sorry I didn't have more insight. Good luck

  • I usually put my DD for naps after an hour of being awake. She will show signs of being sleepy: rubbing her eyes and ears, yawns becomes fussy. DD is placed in her crib while she is still awake with her legs swaddled along with her pacifier. DD will not take the pacifier sometimes so I dip it in gripe water, she loves the sweetness. I also have her white noise machine playing. She will fuss a bit and sometimes I have to go in a few times to place her pacifier in her mouth. This works for me everytime. DD typically naps for 2 to 4 hours. Now if I could just have her sleep for more than 5 hours at night, my life would be a breeze!
  • Super inconsistent over here! I just try to make sure she takes at least 2 45-60 minute naps by doing whatever it takes [usually in the Ergo] she's finally sleeping a little better at night like 11 hours so I'm not too worried about forcing her to sleep a lot.
