What sunblock is recommended for babies?

  • You want a sunBLOCK.  It's important to read the ingredients because things are called blocks when they're not - you want something with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as the main ingredient.  These form a physical blocking layer on the skin vs a sunscreen that is absorbed into the skin.

    I just bought some California Baby sunblock today to use later on, once LO is 6 monthsit's main ingredient is titanium dioxide

    I think I might have gotten the wrong one...The got the Neutrogena Pure and Free but I do not see those ingredients.  

    ETA: Oops, looked at the inactive ingredients not the ACTIVE ones. Its good!

  • I just read something about the safest sunblocks, and California Baby, Badger and Babyganics were all A rated.

  • I just asked my pedi this question this week. He said it's not recommended before 6 months, but if it's absolutely necessary, Blue Lizard sunscreen is the best to use. Supposedly it has the least amount of chemicals absorbed into baby's thin skin.
