Cloth Diapering

Rash

My previous child was in disposables and NEVER had rashes.  This is my first experience CDing.  My daughter is in CD most of the time.  She has had this ongoing rash that I can't completely get rid of.  The type of diapers she wears doesn't seem to affect it and because it doesn't improve when she wears disposables I don't think it's my laundry detergent either.  Her pediatrician says it isn't a yeast infection.  I've used an organic salve, Desitin, Clotrimozole, and Neosporin as well as airing her bum out.  It will improve but as soon as has a major BM it's flared up again.  Her pediatrician also says it doesn't look like an allergy.  She is 4.5 months old and we have been dealing with this rash for at least two months.  I haven't changed my detergent or eating habits since before the rash.  On a bad day there is a lot more redness and a slight wetness to the bumps.  She is exclusively BF and drools a ton from teething.  She has had no illness.  If anyone can offer any insight or advice I'd welcome it.

Re: Rash

  • I have no idea what's going on with your LO's skin condition, but for me, every time my LO has had diaper rash in CDs, it's because of an error on my part: using too much detergent (cutting in half worked wonders), not running an extra rinse cycle (so there was soap residue causing the rash), or switching detergents.  Every time I stripped the dipes are started again, we didn't have the problem.

We use Desitin Rapid Relief to soothe his bum while he's got rash, and that has always worked well for us.

    Good luck!
