Supply and STTN

Mobile: Supply and STTN.

Elsie has been sleeping from 12 to between 5 and 7 for a few weeks. The past 2 nights, she has slept 12 to 8 with some encouragement. My mom was surprised to hear Elsie doesn't eat at all during those hours.

Now I'm suddenly worried for my supply. I know my body is supposed to adjust to it but ... I guess I'm just being a worrywart! Should I pump at some point during the day or night to keep my supply up? How are you ladies handling your LOs who STTN?

Your body adjusts.  If it didn't, you'd have EBF moms never sttn through the first year.  Enjoy your rest!

Exactly! Your LO will be eating a bit more during the day to make up for missing that MOTN meal. It may take a day or two for your body to get the message, but it will!

  • Your body learns to adjust. My LO usually sleeps from 8 to 4 before waking up to feed. She then falls back to sleep for a couple hours after. There are some nights where she wakes up in middle of the night. She does most of her eating during the day.

Your body will adjust.... And if your LO starts waking up again for a MOTN feeding like mine, it will readjust.

  • DD STTN at 12w [7-8 hours a night for 8 nights] and has since stopped and the only problem I've ever encountered with BFing is oversupply! Your body will adjust and even if she wakes up one night at 2 am you will make milk to feed her! The beauty of BFing. You can pump during the day only if you want to start a stash but you don't need to keep your supply up, your Elsie is probably just eating more during the day to make up the volume/calories.
  • Thank you ladies for putting my mind at ease! My mom EBF all 6 of her kids and was SO shocked that we actually slept all night with no 'sleep feedings', I found myself in a doubtfest!
