Babies: 6 - 9 Months

question about poop

Sorry.  Anyway, I'm wondering when babies start having solid poop.  The last two have not been runny at all and I was wondering if this was okay for his age or if he's eating too many solids or is dehydrated/constipated.  He usually has half a banana late morning and then a few tablespoons of veggie at dinnertime, plus 24-32 oz. of formula a day.  Thanks in advance.

Re: question about poop

  • Bananas will do that.  Wait til you try carrots and get the orange poop.

  • Solids can do it and that's ok bananas in particular can cause this if your baby isn't upset by it is totally fine. If your baby is struggling to poop or upset by it you can mix in pears or prunes... Or pumpkin or peas... They all help move and soften

Yep I agree with PPs.  Once they start eating a decent amount of solids poop will thicken up, and it's totally normal.

Just watch for signs that LO is struggling/straining. Otherwise don't sweat it.
