One & Done: Only child

I'm freaking the F* out!!!

DH and I had agreed long ago that we were OAD. Perfect! We are having way to much fun being just DS's Mama and Papa anyhow. So this past Monday rolls along, and the romance starts flowing (CD10 btw) and I thought we were further out from the window than that, so no protection. I'm not on BC either since it wacks me out.

So yesterday I look at the calendar again and I start to freak out!! I've never ovulated early, but the thought that the little guys can live for a few days makes me really nervous. We always said that if we had a happy accident we would gladly take it, but I'm not ready and now I feel really stupid. What a first timer mistake. UGH!!! So pisssed at myself right now. I'm thinking that what I have going on is just left overs from Monday night that appear on the TP when I use the restroom, but my mind keeps running away with me.

I prayed so hard for DS to come into our life, I never thought I would be praying at this moment in time to NOT be pregnant. I had to tell someone other than DH how I'm feeling and I figured this was as good a place as any. I'm thinking about just biting the bullet and talking to the doctor about BC even though it gives me migranes and makes me moody.

First, deep breaths.  I know it's easier said than done, but try not to panic yet.  Obviously POAS once it's time to do that, just to be sure.  In the meantime, it can't hurt to talk to your OBGYN about BC options.  Have you considered a non-hormonal option?  I think paraguard is non-hormonal, so if you want to go the long term route that might be a viable option.

All of this, especially the part about BC options.  I have bad reactions to the pill (especially high BP), but have had no negative reactions to depo shots and Mirena (which I currently have).  No BC is not worth the risk if you really want to be OAD.

For now though, deep breaths and POAS when you can.

  • Don't worry! I'm sure everything will be ok! If you are sure you only want one, maybe your hubby could get the big V

Great idea.  Seriously...this takes care of all the OP's issues!

  • Yeah, is a vasectomy an option? My H has one, it's been great not to worry about accidents.

Don't forget most women don't actually conceive immediately, either.  Even if timed perfectly right, your chance is only 20% or something.  I wouldn't worry, I'm sure you're fine :)

This is sort of where I am hanging my hopes right now. There were so many months that we had perfect timing and never got PG so I'm sure we are fine too. But I'm going to check with my Dr. about options, as well as put it on the table to DH about getting the snip. I think, at first blush he is going to turn it back on to me, so I need to do my research and see which one is the better option, him or me. I don't know enough to be able to say one way or another which is best. I've heard his is easier....? not so much recovery time?.....

If you are talking about permanent BC, then it is 'easier' for males for many reasons.  If you are still not 100% on board with permanent solutions, then you should talk to your doctor about options (pill (there are many different kinds), depo shots, Mirena, etc).

  • I hope you don't mind my butting in, but if you only DTD on Monday, you still have time for Plan B. It's OTC so just stop by a drug store on your lunch break.

    That, too :)

Yeah, definitely do NOT get anything done if you're not 110% positive.  We waited until our daughter was 2, and then got the snip (which, yes.. is WAY easier for them to get, than you a tubal).  My husband got his done on a Thursday morning, took Friday off work.. was back Monday.

  • Thanks for the rec. on the Plan B pill. I didn't know it was even available. I will stop by our pharmacy and pick one up. Thanks so much.

https://www.planbonestep.com/  <~ if you go there, you can put the day/time you had sex, and it will tell you how long you have. You should still have like 24 hours or so :)

All of this. The odds are in your favor.

Take a deep breath and start making some plans for BC or the V so this doesn't happen again.

    Good luck!
