Thank you to those of you checking on Ellie, I have not had the chance to get on here at all as things have been really awful.
Yesterday Ellie started to become very unstable. Her blood pressure was extremely low, she was desatting & needing blood frequently. They did an echo to see if her PDA was causing stuff. She became even more unstable during the echo & had to be put on 100% oxygen. She does have a good sized PDA but they decided they couldn't treat her at his time because her kidneys wouldn't be able to handle Indocin & she was not stable enough to have a ligation. They discovered that her adrenal glands had basically stopped working so they started her on hydrocortisone along with dopamine. She was at 100% oxygen all day & then finally stabilized last night & was able to get down to 70-80%. We'd also noticed that her belly was getting more distended so the plan was to get an ultrasound of her belly as well as her head. They also lost access through the umbilical lines so they wanted to place a PICC.
This morning we got a call at 5:30 & the neo told us we needed to come right in. Her potassium was extremely high & she was having irregular heart rhythms. He told us that she could go into cardiac arrest at any moment. They were giving meds to bring it down & had ordered imaging because he was sure she was bleeding from somewhere. They had been unable to place the PICC the night before so they wanted to try to surgically place one.
The neo attempted to place the PICC but she started bleeding so much & they realized her blood wasn't clotting at all. They then did her head US & it only showed a grade II IVH so they didn't feel that was significant. Her belly ultrasound revealed a massive bleed within her liver, all of the drs kept saying they'd never seen a bleed like hers.
At this point the neo decided she needed reliable IV access ASAP because she was basically being kept alive by meds & only had a peripheral IV. they needed a pediatric surgeon to do it but they couldn't get anyone here until this evening. They decided to transfer her to a different hospital that had a ped surgeon available right away.
We were transferred around 4 this afternoon. She survived the transport, thank God! The ped surgeon was finally able to get a femoral line placed after 3 1/2 hrs of trying. She's getting tons of blood products now & we're praying she starts to clot again & the active bleeding in her liver stops. We are terrified & it has been the most traumatic day. We'd appreciate any T&P'S you can spare.
I will try to update again tomorrow.

she made it through the night, that's a miracle in itself. They are trying to figure out what's going on in her liver & all the docs just keep telling us they've never seen anything like it. They are going to try to get some more imaging today & she continues to need frequent transfusions. Hopefully they'll be able to figure things out ASAP & she stays stable thru all of it. This is all just terrifying, thank you for your T&P's!
