A Pilates instructor and recent first time mother with firsthand experience in this recommended this website: diastasisrehab.com
She said not to buy the system but just to take a look at the exercises it offers. I haven't checked it out myself yet, but hopefully it offers some good info!
Lay on your pillow lift you head up just a bit and back down. This is what my midwife told me to do and it's safe throughout pregnancy. When it gets uncomfortable to be on your back, just roll on your side a bit. It's basically a sit up but not as intense. It really helped keep my abs `less separated last pregnancy.
First, get cleared by your doctor/surgeon. You may have to have a "tummy tuck" to get things stitched back together if it's bad enough (mine is, insurance will cover it, I've been putting off the surgery because I have no support while recovering)
Crunches are supposedly bad for it. I'm just now starting back to the gym. Take it easy whatever you do, and listen to your body, you don't want the thing breaking into a full blown hernia if it hasn't already. I discovered squats actually feel really good which I was surprised about since benching makes me feel like that scene from the exorcist.. Just listen to your body and don't train like a knucklehead!!!
Re: anyone with separated abs? link your exercises here
