New to The Bump

Seriously chilly welcome...

I just joined today because I am looking for advice on my toddler throwing food. I then thought I'd ask cloth diapering moms what they'd like to see in a diaper liner as I'm thinking about making some to try and market. I got the rudest response about how I shouldn't be using people as a "free idea service." I then responded by asking that people not reply if they don't like my question. Following this, yet another woman tells me that people would be "willing to be nicer if they had any idea who you are." Seriously?!? You only deserve to be treated nicely if you are well known to others? I am quickly being reminded of why I left the last mommy website I joined.

On most boards it's considered polite to write an intro post so the other women know who you are. I mostly lurk on the cloth diapering board, but they seem like a  tight knit group. I can understand one of them getting a bit offended by a "stranger" coming in and using them for market research.

This. It's also generally considered rude to run and b!tch about one board to another. you DO realize that we can read other boards right?

  • Sorry you have had such a chilly welcome! Yes - it would be nice to write an intro story (kind of thought that was the whole point of the "my bio" space though). Anyway, I do feel that sites like this should be more open and willing to help mothers and mother-to-be, not so much chastize them. We're all coming from (and headed to) the same place (relatively speaking). My assumption would be that members on this site have a large amount of knowledge and advice for those asking! Definitely frustrating. A little sad to hear this was the general reaction you received.

  • MathairFiona - First of all I'd like to give you a proper Welcome :-)  Sorry to hear about your experience (it's kinda similar to one I had). I don't know much about cloth diapering myself, so I don't have any good info or advise for you. I found that most facebook groups are extremely welcoming, open minded and respectful to newbies even without a formal introduction.  Perhaps you can check it out :-)  Take care!

  • they get defensive easily, which is understandable because I think other people hate on CD a LOT. don't take it personally. Intro next time. Live and learn!
