For those of you who have had Preeclampsia.....

So I am 33 weeks and have preeclampsia. It's mild as of now. I am not sure I am going to make it to my due date which was June 18th. I would like to know if most of you had to be induced and went through labor/delivery or did they end up scheduling a C-section? Or did the induce you and that didn't work then ended up having C section? Thanks.

I had pre-e with my DS1. I was on bed rest for 3 months. I was induced at 39 weeks. My L&D was pretty long 29 hours!! He was born 7lb 6oz and 21 inches long. He was prefect! No health problems. I was on magnesium for 12 hours after deliver- and I think I also had it during labor, but not 100% sure, it's been almost 13 years.

I think it's pretty common to induce between 37 and 39 weeks if you don't go into labor on your own. This is something you will have to discuss with your OB or midwife.

I would try not to stress too much, and just try and focus on keeping your BP down so you can get as far as you can in your pregnancy. Hang in there. Things will work out.

I ended up with pre-e with #1.  It hit at 37 weeks.  I went to my regular appointment that morning, was told to go home and pack my bag, and be back at the hospital in 2 hours.  They couldn't get my blood pressure or swelling to stay down down.  So they made plans to induce me the next morning.  They started the induction process at 8 or 9 am and she was born around 2 pm.

I developed it around 38 weeks. I had just got done working before I went on maternity leave. They told me to go home and rest as much, don't do alot and they would see me in a week. My BP wasn't really too high but the swelling was crazy! At my 39 week appt. I had Grade 3 or 4 pitting edema, they gave me my induction order for the next morning. I was induced with cervadil at 10:30 AM, no progress the whole day, they gave a 2nd dose of cervadil and pitocin the next day. I failed to progress and DD's heart rate was dipping with every contraction so they did an emergency C-section..Thank God the OB made the call when she did, her cord was wrapped around her neck 3x!! This time is a RCS for me!

I developed pre e at 32w with DD1 and was induced at 34w 3 d. I ended up in c section because I wasnt progressing apast 3cm.  My girl was healthy no nicu or breathing issues she is 6 now.  Also in delivery they will give you mag through the iv it prevents siezures it also stops contractions.  So when the give you pitocin and mag together it is hard for you to dilate.Good Luck.

i am thankful you asked these questions, as I have been wondering the same things. I am a FTM and have developed a mild case of preeclampsia as well at about 32 1/2 weeks. I'm at the doctors twice a week and at L & D twice a week for non stress tests. When I am not with a doctor, i am on bed rest. The doctors sent me to meet with a specialist and together, her and my doctors have decided that I will need to be induced at 37 weeks. (Which will be the week of May 12th). They said that preeclampsia babies are full term at 37 weeks and they rather not risk my health by waiting. I trust their decision but I had my first internal exam on Monday and doctor said the baby hasn't dropped yet so I'm scared that a long induction will end up in a c section.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a safe and healthy delivery!

I had it with my first but my Dr must have ,issued all the signs and I found out when I went to the ER cause I felt really sick and weak one night. I knew something was wrong.

anyhow I had a very severe case and was admitted. They attempted to induce and after 36 hours obviously I had gotten more sick and was pretty bad. They did an emergency c-section. I was around 28 weeks I think.

I developed it at 34 weeks.  I gained about 15lbs (all water) in two weeks and of course my blood pressure was very high.  I went to my 36 week appointment which is when protein in my urine showed up.  She sent me to the hospital so she could do a 24hour urine collection.  After the 24 hour the protein in my urine was higher than the day before so they gave me the option of being induced or having a c-section.  I went with the c-section and had my daughter at 36 weeks.  I'm hoping I don't get it this time, even though there isn't much you can do about it.  My mom also had it so that is probably why I got it.

I had Preeclampsia with my first. I went to a routine doctors visit at 38 weeks and was sent over to the hospital for monitoring. In the 3 hours I was there it was getting worse and FAST. They talked to me breifly about inducing but then stated about 15 min. later that it was no longer an option because nothing was lowering my bp. I had to have my daughter by emergency c-section abiut 10 min later. It wasn't my ideal delivery, but I was not going to argue with the doctors as they were very concerned about my daughter and myself. In the end I was happy because I finally had my little girl. Best of luck to you!!

I'm at the brink of being diagnosed with it but have not had protein in my urine. I'm really worried how early the baby will be delivered since I'm right now only 28.5 weeks. I got the diagnosis of pregnancy induced hypertension at 27wks 6 days. My doctor is really worried since I have a high uric acid level and low platelets along with severe swelling and weight gain. They are watching me weekly at this point and I'm not on bed rest since my urine has been negative for protein. I'm hoping to keep my little guy cooking as long as possibly but I'm guessing I'll be delivering closer to the beginning of July instead of the end like I expected since my due date is July 24. I'm just trying to keep my blood pressure down by resting and relaxing, limiting my sodium intake and drinking lots and lots of water. I suggest you do the same! Best of luck to you!
