Preemies

Managing Milestones

I know we talk a lot about the rate at which our babies reach milestones. I completly understand adjusted age but we are just embarking on the milestone tracking portion of our journey.

Fowler is 4 months actual, 1 month adjusted and on intinal EI evaluation is today. Our NICU refers all micro preemies. I'm not sure what all they can measure at his age.

We are begining to realize what a mix bag he can be. He can roll from tummy to back but is not yet making facial expressions to us. Its not only hard to explain to others...but also to experience. I want to have the right amount of worry. Just enough to help me spot true potiential issues and not worry over things that will be ok! I also have heard a lot of junk from other people like...you are gonna want to ask about him not smiling yet...that's not normal...he might be autistic. Good gracious! He might very well be and yes we should continue to watch his milestones but he is only supposed to be here for a few weeks now!

Anyway, wish us luck with the EI eval. I dobt think he will qualify for anythong at this stange but I am just happy to have another set of eyes looking for potiential issues!

Re: Managing Milestones

  • What's so funny about everyone's comments to me is that I am a special educator!!! I am not a developmental specialist but good grief I at least know at what point to BEGIN to be concerned!

I agree...I just must ignore them!

The evaluation when great. I feel like the worker was at least very objective. She note some strengths and some weaknesses. We will have a PT formal eval in a few weeks and go from there.
