Wondering when I should start the transition from crib to toddler bed. The new baby won't be here for another five months and then will be in a bassinet for three months after, so I'm not too concerned. Just more curious when everyone started?
He hasn't tried to climb out yet, which if he did, then I'd obviously start. I just feel like this is going to be a disaster and would like to get this over now before the baby arrives.
My reason for not starting is that I know for a fact he'd 1. Flip out and 2. Would sit there and play with his toys. A lot of people suggested to make a big deal of the big boy bed, but I don't think he'd quite comprehend what's happening.
Re: Should I transition?
I would wait it out as long as you can. If your LO is content in the crib, leave it. You've got another 8 months, and it's not like you need that much time for the transition. In another 6 months your LO will have a much better understanding of bedtime "rules" (i.e. staying in bed) and will be more likely to take it in stride.
I transitioned my daughter when she was almost 3 - it was a perfectly smooth transition and she slept much better in her new bed than she did in her crib. I'm glad I waited though because I doubt it would have gone smoothly before that.
