Not STTN and work

Sadly I will be going back to work soon and I do not foresee LO STTN anytime soon. She is worse now than she ever was, waking twice to feed. Anyone else back to work and still up doing feedings? Any advice or are you just plain exhausted?? I FF so I could have DH get up too, but he works longer hours than I do and I feel guilty.

Re: Not STTN and work

  • You adjust..... my dog is 4, and she doesn't sttn. And dd still gets up occasionally. The baby sttn more often than the two of them.

  • I've been surviving. Back at work part time for 4weeks now and DD has just slept through he past 2 nights! But she is usually up at least once, often twice. Once I'm busy at work, I don't notice how tired I am. Good luck to you!

  • I am into my second week at work and LO wakes up erratically throughout the night. Sometimes he wakes up once, last night he woke up 3 times (once he had a poop issue). I am the one who gets up as my husband has a hard time falling back to sleep, but I think we will be reevaluating that if our son doesn't start STTN soon. Good Luck!!
  • You learn to get by!!! When I went back to work with my first, she was still waking SIX times a night. Since I EBF, I was the one waking up with her all the time. At the 6 month mark, we let her CIO because I couldn't handle it anymore, plus I knew she was old enough to sleep longer. From then on, she was a great sleeper...except on when teething or had a cold, which is understandable.

  • I don't have a good answer but will/can commiserate.  I've been back to work for over a week now and DS2 is a crap night sleeper.  I am exhausted.....

     Coffee is my answer...!  Ugh.

  • You'll be fine because you'll have to be! Like others, I've got two older kids that are almost 5 and almost 2. We don't STTN many nights because of bad dreams, scary noises, illness, etc. It's the norm to be up at least once for at least one child. And, I bet you were up many times a night at the end of your pregnancy while still working. It gets better. But, mentally, it gets better faster if you shift expectations. Right now LO and I cosleep after his first waking between 1 and 3, but I'll have to start putting him back in his crib and dealing with the two wakings a again soon because I will be getting up earlier than him to get ready for work in the mornings. Hang in there!

  • You'll get used to it. I used to sleep at least 8 hours/night pre baby, but these days, if I'm lucky, baby gets up twice, otherwise, every 2 hours.

I can't even drink coffee because it makes the baby restless, which is even worse.

  • You just do it. I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse and have to get up with LO at night. I'm tired, and my job is exhausting anyway, but I don't have a choice. You'll be surprised how well you cope with limited sleep.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • You are all rock stars!! I don't nap now anyway during the day so I guess it'll be a similar exhaustion when I go back to work. Here's hoping we all get some sleep soon! Until then, I'll continue with lots of coffee! Thanks!
  •  I worked PT with DS1 and he was a horrible sleeper. He was up 7 times each night and took 30 minute naps during the day.  DH was working out of town during the week and was barely home on the weekend.  I developed a coffee habit due to this.  I would walk straight to the coffee pot when I walked in the office each morning.  Eventually my body adjusted.  To this day, he is still my worst sleeper.  On the days DS3 sleeps well, the other two are usually up a few times.  The only way I get a full nights sleep is to send my kids to the grandparents for the night.
