Girl name opinion

Avery

I know its origin is male but its climbed up the ladder for female too.

Do you think of it more for a boy or girl, when you hear this name.

Whats a good middle name that flows with it?

Re: Girl name opinion

  • Meh

It's a unisex name, so it doesn't make me think one gender or another

  • I've only met girls named Avery, so I think it's a girls name. I had it in my girls list for my first daughter.

  • This name stands out to me as well, it would make a cute girls name, as for middle names, maybe something like, Avery Layla.. Avery Belle.. Avery Sienna
  • Are you adding it as well to your top list? I like Avery Grace but I dont think my husband is liking the middle part lol.  i love Sienna I use to nanny to a little girl and her mom was from Brazil-very unique.

    Avery Elizabeth

I like it for a girl much more than for a boy.
  • The only Avery I know is a boy and I've thought of it as a boy name ever since reading Charlotte's Web when I was a child.  But it is very popular as a girl name now, so I guess E.B. White and I are in the minority.  I would definitely pair it with a feminine middle name so those of us who are old school won't assume she's a boy.

  • I would do a very feminine mn with like Elizabeth. It's not my favorite, but I don't hate it.

This is actually one of my strong reasons against Avery.

To me, it's definitely a boys name.  People can name their daughters whatever they want, but it doesn't magically become a girl's name just because it's used on a girl.  The same way a table doesn't magically become a chair just because I start sitting on it.

And I remember reading Charlotte's Web AND having it read to us in school.  And I feel like it's such a classic book, that it's still being read to young people.  Which means, all of your daughter's classmates are going to hear Avery and understand it's a boy's name, and has been for over 50 years.  And then I can easily see the teasing coming from that.
