More milk discussion

So I've been indulging in sour cream and cheese recently [Ive missed it soooo much] and much to my dismay, Hunter has a touch of a rash on his tummy and started spitting up [well, projectile spitting up] again

So I guess the milk protein sensitivity is still there. Womp womp.

He had to have some formula when my supply was down thanks to stomach flu. I gave him soy and he did really well w it

So as the big 1 approaches, I'm starting to worry about what to give during the day. I won't be legally protected to pump after he's one.

I was thinking about soy milk or soy toddler formula during the day and nursing at home. Or weaning. Not sure

But then, I don't want to give him too much soy bc of the phytoestrogens. He already has baby man boobs. ;] but seriously, we advise women w breast cancer to avoid soy, so in my mind, that says something about soys ability to mess w hormones

The other choice is coconut milk. Has anyone tried it? I tried coconut milk yogurt and it was sooo sweet. Coconut milk ice cream is amazeballs though

Goats milk grosses me out and is hard to find here and is expensive

So which would you give?

Re: More milk discussion

  • I have been thinking about this too.  I breastfeed, but I'll be going back to work soon and I'd like her to get used to some alternatives to breastmilk.  She doesn't have an allergy, but I'm not convinced that cow's milk is the healthiest choice.  Like a PP mentioned, there are lots of options out there now.  Soy milk, almond milk etc.  I have started drinking almond milk myself.  I blend it with a banana for a healthy snack.  There are lots of foods out there that can help LO get the calcium and nutrients they need as well.

I love coconut milk, but I am not sure about drinking it straight.  It's really fatty and sweet.  Good for soups, sauces etc...but I don't know about using it as milk alternative. At least that is the only type I have had.  I imagine there is a type that is lighter for drinking.

  • I agree with PPs, there are a lot of milk choices out there.  I am planning to give coconut milk to LO soon.  I got some this weekend to try and it is sweet.  I looked into the ingredients and it seems like it has comparable amounts of sugar as cows milk.
