Sleep during the day??

I am just wodering how much everyone elses LO's are sleeping/awake during the day??  DS is one month old today.  Most days it seems like he is awake for an hour to hour and a half then naps for about an hour.  This pattern continues throughout the day.  Sometimes he will stay awake for 2 hours but not often.  Is he sleeping too much??  Should he be awake more??

My LO is 5 weeks and this sounds about like his schedule. They still sleep a lot and you're not supposed to keep them up. I let him sleep whenever he wants.

My LO is a month old today too and that sounds like her schedule. Babies need a lot of sleep so I just follow her cues and let her sleep when she's tired. But I do wake her up once its been 3 hours since her last feeding so she never sleeps too long during the day.

This is totally normal.. 15-18 hours a day is normal for this age.  If you keep them awake when they want to sleep it won't help at night and it will make them fussy and miserable!

I just didn't know that now that DS is getting a little older if he should be awake a little more throughout the day.  I definitely don't keep him awake during the day.  Just a FTM who just isn't sure what to expect.

This was posted on the 0 to 3 month board yesterday. It talks about awake time and sleep time. ww.troublesometots.com/areyoukeepingbabyawaketoolong
Basically your LO should be awake anywhere from 45 min to a 1 1/2 hours. Then they can nap anywhere between 15min and 4 hours. Just follow LO cues. If he's yawning or eyes are getting heavy put him down for a nap. If you keep them up too long you risk them being overtired and fussy.

Sorry I wasn't trying to sound snarky! I was concerned about the same thing yesterday and that's when I looked up the stuff about the 15-18 hours!

DS is almost 6 weeks old and pretty much hasn't napped since about 3 weeks old.  I'm lucky if I get 1-2 1 hours naps during the day.  Usually it's more like 1 30 minute nap.
