Hey guys,
I started drinking sobe life waters around my 11th week because drinking plain water can be very painful for me. As usual, I realized it contained something I can't have and am feeling really down about it. I had no way of knowing that ginseng causes birth defects. I've probably had close to 10 of these drinks. Not all of them had ginseng in it but most did. What do I do? I'm nervous enough about everything else. I feel like there are too many unknown rules in pregnancy.
thanks!
Re: ginseng
you don't drink any more. would the presence of birth defects affect the course of your remaining pregnancy? If not, you stop stressing. the stress may be just as bad if not worse than the ginseng. talk to your OB when you go next, but just try to relax. Try adding crystal light or citrus juice to your water. If ALL else fails, maybe decaf tea.
I don't personally know the effects ginseng can have, but a quick Google shows a WebMD(hopefully clicky below) article from 2003 that states the greater risk is in first tri.

Thank you. I generally try not to worry about ingesting certain things by accident but I've had enough of these drinks to be worried. I'm pretty sure that I didn't have any of these before my 10th week but I can't be 100% positive. I feel like I keep accidentally making these wrong moves. Vitamin water seems like such a harmless thing and I can't stand having to stress about it. Of course ginseng is something that almost nobody consumes in this country on a regular basis so there's no information available other than this rat study.
I would like to think that there are only trace amounts of ginseng in a drink that's not advertised as an herbal beverage. It's one of the last ingredients on the list. Most important, is there reason to believe that it could be totally okay?? Does anyone know people that drank ginseng tea or took supplements during pregnancy? Thanks so much.
