Recommend your crib mobile/soother/projector

I'm looking for some type of crib soother for my DD in hopes that it will calm her since she melts down at every nap.  We already have white noise so it's not necessary for the soother to have this option.  I've seen some projectors that display images onto the ceiling that look cool...any experience with this?

Let me know what works for your LO.   Thanks!

Re: Recommend your crib mobile/soother/projector

  • I might get verbally lashed for this, but we let DD have a blanket in her crib during nap time. She likes having something to grab onto, and she'll pull it up and rub it on her cheek while she sucks her paci. Of course, I watch her like a hawk and check her every few minutes, but once she's asleep she doesn't really move so it's no big deal. We have the munchkin noise machine and projector and she doesn't seem to care about the pictures at all. We also have a mobile that sometimes she likes to watch, but that's also hit or miss. When all else fails, the baby swing makes her pass out!
  • Loading the player...
  • We bought a couple of the projectors but returned them because we have no furniture close enough to the crib to work. The projectors have to be a certain distance from the crib and from the ceiling or you either can't see the pictures or they're just big blobs. We were given a Pillow Pets Dream Lite and we zip tied it to the rail of DD's crib. You can see the stars well and she can turn it on herself when she wakes up.

  • We have both of these. May seem like overkill, but we use both at different times.

I use the Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother for DS to fall asleep to right now.  It also has a temporary night light feature that I like when I need to check on him in the middle of the night and don't have to turn on another light- it's a nice soft blue glow that fades on and off. Good for searching for a paci in the crib.

He also likes the Fisher Price 2 in 1 Precious Planet Projection Mobile. I like that it will grow with him as the mobile part comes off and the images will be projected onto the ceiling instead of the mobile canopy.

Both offer white noise and/or music with or with out the illumination and both have a little one button remote so you can turn it off or on from the nursery door without going in.

  • We use the Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother and it works like a charm. It also easily detaches from the crib so we use it during tummy time and to keep her calm during bath time. It has a little remote that allows me to restart it without going all the way in DD's room. All-in-all it serves it purpose.

We have a V-tech soothe & surprise nature light soother. It has a projector for the ceiling, different sound and length settings and lights and little creatures inside the move around. But my favorite thing about it is the angry baby sensor. When he starts fussing loudly, the music kicks on.

thats funny! Angry baby sensor? This thing would be playing music non-stop for my LO!

  • When my first was born, we got the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders baby projector.  After that, I realized there were many different kinds out there.  I actually put together a website called www.babyprojectors.com.  This gives an overview and comparisons of the baby proejctors and soothers out there to help you decide which one to purchase.  I hope you all like it.
  • We have this one which we use almost every night.  It has a timer on it (15, 30 & 45 min), and 3 projector slides:  https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=16831326

We also have this one, which we really don't use at all:

Here's our mobile which DS loves:

Lastly, DS has a similar one at my parents house which he's obsessed with (it's not this one):

Isn't that rewarding bad behavior ??

  • Projector never worked with my son. He liked music and lights closer to his face. We used the fisher price sea horse when he was a baby then moved on to a fisher price aquarium, which we used until he was two and a half and he started to stay up all night playing with it. We also used a cd so that he would have soft music playing when the soother went off. He was a collicky baby, and slept very well using these products. We also gave him a lovey to hold because he found holding blankets to be very calming. He slept with his lovey until he was over two and decided he didn't want/need it any more.

My daughter is way different. She likes white noise. But she also needs to be held tightly, and Merlin's magic sleep suit works well for her. She also likes her lovey. It's really just trial and error. I discovered she liked white noise when she had to be admitted to the hospital for a few days and I brought the white noise machine along for myself!
  • My mother picked this one out for ds. It's the VTech Soothing Ocean Mobile (Walmart). It's working well so far and fits our huge crib well. No complaints here.

I also use the Sleep Sheep for motn wake ups.

  • We have the Sleep Sheep and usually use the ocean waves setting. Our older kids each have a DreamLites animal that projects stars on the ceiling.

I'm hoping the behavior comment was a joke?
  • My DD has a turtle that projects stars onto the ceiling.  She seems to not depend on it as much as her Seahorse that glows and plays music.
  • As for a projector, there are these cheap nightlights that project a scene on the ceiling. works great. my 2yo has one, and a dreamlite. for the twins, we have the seahorse, plays music for 5 minutes. the fan is on for white noise all night.
i don't really see the point of spending a lot of money for a projector. seems a bit over the top.

  • We have a Cloud B (sp?) sea turtle that projects star/water movement and plays music. I played it for myself pregnant and ever since he was born, it's the one thing that grabs his attention. When that music starts playing... The baby starts listening! (And if I'm lucky, drowsing off hehe)

This is what we have as well and DD loves it! It really helped me out when I was home with her on maternity leave. I could leave her in her crib to stare and coo at it while I took a shower, ate etc
