Nanny Anxiety

I currently am working full time from home and up until this point have been taking care of LO as well. My DHs job is flexible so he's been able to come home when I have important calls. Since LO has been awake more and teething, we decided its time to get help for me during the day. While I'm very excited to have the help, I'm so anxious! She starts tomorrow and I met her and she seems great, but I'm just not sure how it will be. It's going to be hard for me to hear LO cry and not run out to see what's going on! I don't want to seem overbearing, but I know initially I won't be able to help it! This week she's just coming a few hours to start getting to know DS, and we are keeping it like that until we move in June. I know that I'm very lucky to be able to be in this situation, but I'm still very nervous!! Thanks for listening! ::mobile smiley::

Re: Nanny Anxiety

  • I am pretty much exactly in your situation.  We use both the inlaws and a grad student.  The inlaws are terrible because I can't tell them anything and it makes me crazy to imagine my LO suffering when they don't understand what she needs.  With the grad student, it's much better because she listens.  I am continuing to breastfeed, and so far I have just gone downstairs when I hear baby asking for food, although eventually I will want the grad student to decide and bring her up.  When I know LO is fed, I close the door and decide not to go down.  But if she's really screamy, I go and make a suggestion or two and then go back upstairs...
  • Im in the same situation except I will be away at work starting next week. Our nanny is also very nice but I am still very anxious about it. She came today for a few hours and my DD went hysterical! Hopefully it will get better. I wish you luck as well!

  • just remember LOs are very sensitive to our moods...so try not to be anxious or it may make your lo anxious too!

no other input from me...aside from some major envy that you have that option! be happy that your lo is right there and if you feel the need, you can pop over and say hi.

  • How lucky! I'd love to do that if I were still working. I was a nanny and I fully believe its a better option if you can afford it. I worked in a few day cares and was appalled by some of the people. If I used day care everyone would be background checked and finger printed. And I would want a place that had webcams so I could check in. Of course I'd have a nannycam as well. We have one for Mr. to be able to see C when he is in his crib. Maybe you could get something similar? It's from Summer. I think it's calmed the Peek? It hooks up to yor wireless router and you can log into their site with your info and access your baby monitor. Even on your phone! That might give you some sense of peace.
Also for the pp whose baby freaked. It's most likely because you were there. Remember babies find us with smell before anything then sound. If you're hanging out and they can hear you and smell you but you're invisible. Yeah I'd panic too! Try leaving the house. That was he advice I've been given about husband watching baby. So far it works.
