VBAC

I need some help.

I had a perfect pregnancy with my DD until about 37w6d. I went in for a routine OB appointment and they couldn't get my blood pressure down so they sent me to the hospital for tests. They diagnosed me with preeclampsia and induced me. I ended up having to have a c/s because my labor was unprogressive after 22 hours. I am currently pregnant with #2 and when I went to my OB they informed me that they don't perform VBAC's. I really don't want to do another c/s if I can help it. The closest place to me that does do VBAC is an hour away. Does anyone have suggestions for a mother who doesn't want to go through that pain and heartache again?

  • An hour isn't so far, and if it's really important to you, I would switch. We drive 40 min to all OB appointments and our hospital.

  • Find a midwife! I have had 3 sections and found a midwife with a high success rate. Also preeclampsia can be prevented with proper diet high in proteins low sugars and tons of water!!!! My 2nd was born early due to this at 32 weeks and followed a strict routine with number 3 and she was fine ! Midwife may be the way to go. Also you can deliver at a birthing center, hospitals aren't the most welcoming places anyways .
  • Do you have a local ICAN group near you? They might also have some ideas about VBAC-friendly providers. If it's important to you, I would go to the place that's far away.

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • I would travel an hour if it was what I truly wanted.

I was thinking THIS too! Also an hour isn't terrible to see the doctor for appointments. How far away is the hospital where you would deliver? I think if a VBAC is important to you then you should at least see if you like the doctors that are an hour away :)
