Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Ditching the swaddle- I gave up

Thanks for those that gave advice. After 6 nights swaddle free I gave up. We are back to two hour naps instead of 20 minutes, and less night disruptions,so I guess it was the right choice for her. I will try again when she is older or shows starts rolling. I just feel bad that we may get to 6 months and have to take her swaddle and paci away all at once. She will be one mad baby :(

It's not exactly the same thing, but our pedi recommended breaking our LO's heart all at once with a few things.  Easier to get through one big tantrum than a series of little ones.  So in one night, we ditched the swaddle, moved him to his own room, moved him to the crib, and started sleep training... all during a growth spurt and teething troubles.  We had 2 rough nights and then he was fine!

  • Well you have to do what works for your LO and it sounds like they are just not ready yet.  I would definitely still swaddle if it meant 2 hr naps! Try again in a few weeks.  Apparently my SIL swaddled until 1 year (insert eye roll) And she also cosleeps for nighttime AND naps...GAH! I always thought my DD would be swaddled until she was 10 but we finally just transitioned.
  • My doctor said its fine to swaddle as long as the baby wants it that it soothes them and is not bad...my dd is almost 6 months and stil, wants that snug feeling and I was worried so asked the dr and her saying that made me feel better...she said I will know when she no longer needs it..I tried breaking it multiple, times but she just can't rest without it

  • I tried ditching the swaddle a few weeks ago. Did not fare well in our house. Same thing with the crib. I tried to move her in it, and it did not work. Eventually, I just put her in the crib one night without making a big deal of it and she has been fine in there ever since. Same thing with the swaddle. She regressed a bit with sleeping and was very fussy for a few nights. We ditched the swaddle and put a wearable blanket on her instead. She loves it now and sleeps with her arms above her head (it's adorable). Wait for her to tell you she's ready.
