Hey all finding varying guidance on the google, and forgot to ask at my appt this week. When did people start drinking red raspberry leaf tea? And how much did you drink per day?
Thanks!
at 28 weeks 3 to 5 cups if its the tea form if pills 2 to 3 a day up till delivery when labor starts make strong batch of tea and drink it. This is what I was told.
RRLT doesnt bring on labor or contractions or anything like that. It just helps tone the uterus so you can drink it at any time
Also, be sure to get the ' RR Leaf' Tea... not raspberry Flavored Tea. It is the Leaf that contains the the stuff you want. You can get it on Amazon 'Yogi' brand is good. Or at health food stores. Most grocery stores dont carry it, they just have the flavored stuff.

I've seen many threads on this tea. I haven't really paid much attention to the topics, but curious what is this tea for, how come so many people take an interest in it?

Great, thanks. Yogi was actually the brand my slightly weird grocery store had, so glad for the rec!
Some start in the second trimester, but I was told as close to full term as possible [37 weeks and on]. It tones the uterus so any BH you feel may be amplified. You follow the directions on the package. Mine instructs 5 times a day.
the tea helps uterus contract better during labor and helps healing after. Supposed to be great for those having a c section.
So, is this tea to be drank before you are term, or once you are term, and after you have had the baby? Can this tea put you into labor? Is this tea Dr. recommended?

See above, but I was told to try to time your medicinal strength dosing (five times a day) as close to term as possible. The tea itself won't put you into labor (if you are not ready all by yourself) but it can make BH (practice contractions) more uncomfortable (more of a toned uterus = more intense BH and later intense contractions = more effective to dilate the cervix).
My OB and midwife recommended the tea after 37 weeks, so it comes recommended in our practice and my experience. I drank it from 38 weeks last time and plan to start at 37 weeks this time. I don't know that I would, personally, start in second trimester or even early 3rd.
The tea does not put you into labor it tones your uterus. My dr recommended 2 cups from 28- 32weeks and 32-36 weeks 4 cups after 36 weeks up to 5 cups a day. My dr recommended because I will be having a c section and it will help after the birth with uterus shinking to normal size and healing. It takes several weeks for the herb to begin working thats why you start at 28 weeks.

good to know! I am gonna ask my Dr. about it next week and see what she says about it! thanks!
I'm a little late, I started drinking it this week but I just wanted to say that I am surprised at how much I actually LIKE the raspberry leaf tea! I have the Traditional Medicinals brand that I picked up at our bulk foods store. Normally I don't like herbal/flavored teas, I prefer to drink just regular black tea, but this is actually pretty darn tasty. I made a big pitcher of it iced... hope it has the same effect!

Fascinating. Thank you for this, I am sure I will have to have another c/s. I'll try anything to improve my recovery!
I decided to start at 32w with a cup a day. At 34, I'll go to two. If I can manage three cups a day, I'll do so starting at 36w. And so on. Basically, I'll drink as much as possible as I get closer.
I doubt I'll like it hot as summer arrives, so I Just brewed my first iced tea today 6 bags for 1.5 quarts with a touch of honey and some mango infused.
Thanks for posting this. I was wondering how I'll manage to get enough when it's 80 degrees out and the last thing I want is a cup of hot tea. I had heard of doing iced but didn't know how to go about it. :]
I started drinking it at 18 weeks or so? I can't remember exactly but it's whenever I got my tea in the mail. My midwife said it was OK to drink from the get-go (in fact most "pregnancy jeans" have it in them. I haven't had a single BH yet and I'm at 27 weeks now. I've only been drinking one glass a day, though. Upping that to two at 30 weeks, three at 34 weeks, and 4 at 36 weeks on.
