I've heard mixed reviews... and I'm going to the RE for the first time soon. I wanted to ask before I go there, do you guys think Clomid is worth trying? From what I've heard from other patients around here, it's usually the first thing this Dr tries.
I don't mind the risk of having multiples, but I've read so many things online about Clomid actually causing more long-term problems...
Re: Is Clomid worth it?
While the internet can be a wonderful thing, I wouldn't be too pessimistic about Clomid until you've spoken with your RE, especially if he/she thinks this may be the best route for you.
I am annovulatory and was put on 50mg Clomid my first round (without success), but on my second round (this time at 100mg), I ovulated. So, I can say I was glad they tried this with me. Although it comes with some pretty annoying side effects (hot flashes, mood swings, fatigue, breast tenderness), it may be worth a shot.
Good luck with everything!
I can say that I tried letrazol femara after that and I yielded the same results with zero side effects. So I would recommend femara instead if its an option for you.
Clomid had so many terrible side effects for me, it was terrible. I was psychotic, had severe headaches, and gained 5 lbs. it also thinned my lining. With letrazol I had zero side effects. And as a matter of fact I had way worse SE with clomid compared to my ivf meds...so, personally I'm not a clomid fan, but it's a good entry level drug. You should start with those oral meds and pray for success!! Good luck to you!
Ditto to this!

It depends what your issue is. OB's are terrible about giving out clomid like candy without really figure out what is wrong. A good RE should do a battery of tests to figure out what is going on before giving you any medication. You may be ovulating, but may not be getting pregnant for other reasons - i.e. if your tubes are blocked, clomid will make no difference whatsoever.
Are you sure you're not ovulating consistently? Do you chart? If not, look into starting. Clomid will help you ovulate if you're not ovulating, but that's all it does. It's not a miracle fertility drug.
You SHOULD mind having multiples - it's extremely risky. There is a risk that one or more babies will not make it and it's extremely hard on your body also. Your goal should always be 1. If an RE promises to give you twins or triplets, find a new doctor.
Good luck.
