Shopping help

Hi all,
This is my first pregnancy and my husband knows about as much as I do. I don't know when is too soon to shop for maternity clothes and I don't know how far in advance to shop for. My husband is looking for work, so things are a bit tight right now. Please help! I appreciate any advice, thank you.

Re: Shopping help

  • I didn't need them till almost 20 weeks with my first, but everyone's body is different. You won't show for awhile though, just bloat.

  • I didn't need them until month 4. You can buy a bra extender to help. Also you can do the rubber band trick on pants: open the button, lace the rubber band thru the button hole and over the button.

  • You can buy a Bella Band to help you use the jeans you already have. They sell them at Target and online that I know of. I used one in my first pregnancy and it allowed me to go until about 14 weeks in my regular pants. This time around I am just going to switch to maternity pants whenever my jeans are uncomfortable since I already have them. I'm so bloated already it will be much earlier this time. A lot of girls like to wait until they hear the heartbeat or after the first tri

  • How far along are you? I'll be 7 weeks on Monday and I'm far from needing them, just bloated so opting out if my skinny jeans when I can. A bigger bra is one thing I might need, but what I've been doing at the gym is wearing my sports bra over my regular bra for extra support. Just wait to buy until you need it, you'll be fine
  • I didn't need maternity pants until 20 weeks with my first. I would wait and see what you actually end up needing. My yoga pants and maxi dresses fit my entire pregnancy so I only need 4 pairs of pants.

  • I agree with everyone else. I would just wait until you need them and only buy what you need as you go. Last time I tried to shop ahead and buy on eBay and I ended up with clothes that didn't fit or I was never able to wear. You never know how your body will be shaped...

  • Maxi dresses, leggings, long tanks, and yoga pants were my favorites for the first four or five months last pregnancy. They are also good for post baby. Old Navy, Kohl's, and Target are good  places to find cheap, non-maternity essentials. Also, are there any consignment shops near you? They are a great place to get gently use, affordable maternity clothes.

  • I didn't need them until week 15 last time. Last time I had bought some in 1st tri b/c I was excited but those ended up being a waste of money. I wouldn't reccomends buying anything until you have an actual bump. You really can't predict how things will look in few weeks
  • Thanks for all your suggestions, us hate to waste the time, effort and money to get something that won't help. I think I can easily wait 10 to 15 weeks now. Thank you.
