I have seasonal allergies, really bad. May through September I live on Allegra. DH and I are going to ttc in September and I'm wondering how I will be able to manage my allergies if we do get pregnant. Any other allergy sufferers here have tips?
I haven't spoke to my doctor about this yet, but I am assuming I will not be able to take my allergy medication once I am pregnant, so I am wondering what I am going to do.
Like pp said most are safe during pregnancy. If not, they can substitute for something that is. I take 5 allergy pills every day due to severe food and environmental allergies. A good allergist will be able to help you if nothing else.
I usually take allegra in the spring and fall and my doctor advised me not to during my pregnancy. Amazingly enough, my allergies almost entirely subsided during my pregnancy. I can't say that will be true for everyone, but perhaps your symptoms will subside.
I too have HORRIBLE seasonal allergies and live on Zyrtec D. First and foremost your doc will tell you to be comfortable while ttc, so keep up with the Allegra. Just make sure you drink lots of water as allergy meds tend to dry out mucus everywhere. Water will keep the production up down below! Hope this helps!
I stopped taking my allergy medicine because it got too expensive. I do nasal irrigation with a Neti Pot. It's not very pleasant at first, but feels amazing after. It hydrates sinuses and clears out pollen. They're pretty cheap too!

Re: Allergies
Allergy medicines are safe during pregnancy.
