My babe is 14.5months. Should I be sending her anywhere??
We had several friends over & visit and took a few small classes during winter time, but now that the weather is getting warmer....I wonder if i should send her somewhere for a 1/2 day or all day school?
A local daycare said she needs to be 2 to get admitted.
Re: School
Where we will send DS to pre school offers a transition class at 18 months where most of it parent attends for half I think.... to get child used to class etc. I am torn wether or not to do this seen that when the class starts he will be about 20 months (he misses preschool deadline birthday date) and I am due with #2 shortly after which will make it very hard to attend or even get him there. I will most likely wait until he is old enough to do the regular preschool class and enjoy him while he is at home with me. Not doing a class doesn't mean he will be behind in any way. Get out and go places, or if at home make everyday a learning day with one thing or another.
I say let her be a kid. Get her some interaction in a class/playground/with friends' kids etc. and let it be.
She has her life for school and structured activities. Learning is important but there's a lot of learning to be done in free play too.
We do a class one night a week during the school year for an hour and daycare what amounts to two half days a week (because I work so it's needed. It's also a home daycare so there's a lot of free play). We also do playground/waterpark/lake etc. in the summer and lots of family get togethers with kids.
I wouldn't send her off with out you if you don't have to. I have been taking my LO to early childhood classes since she was 5 months old (we go together) and they are a lot of fun. They don't have any through the summer so we are transitioning to swimming lessons and story time at the library, I can't wait for her classes to start up in the fall again though. They are so awesome!
ETA: The classes we go to are very open and you are free to do what you want in it. They always have a craft set up in the back of the room that we have done a few times. She likes to finger paint so we've done that. Otherwise it is free play with all of the toys there, some of the classes go down to the gym and play on the slides, with the wagons etc.. And then the last 10 minutes of class is dedicated to songs/finger plays. She loves the last 10 minutes so much and has learned a ton of her "dance moves" from it.
She may be a little young for all day or even half day programs. We do a lot of parent/child classes that are 30 - 60 minutes long (swim lessons, gymnastics, music, art, library, soccer). He is starting a pre-preschool that is for 2 - 3 year olds when he is 2.5 this September. The program is 1.5 hours/day 2 days/week. He won't be starting a half day program until he is 4.5.
Thanks.
We are planning to take swimming lessons in the summer, but I will check out local libraries for storytelling/reading. Many museums in NYC have kids programs, but they are for 2 or 3 and older.
We go playground-hopping in the city (because I like to walk everywhere), but my babe doesn't like anything (she hates the swing)....other than walking around.
I feel bad, because she wants to interact with other kids, but she doesn't know how...or too afraid? She seems to prefer older kids (older than 5) or adults.
