Success after IF

IUI #3 is a go! Any Menopur advice?

After initially thinking IUI #3 would have been a few weeks ago, I was put on BCP for three weeks until my two cysts were gone. Now they are and I will start my first injectable cycle once AF shows. I'm a little nervous but mostly excited! Hopefully this will be it because it will be our last IUI before IVF. It is my first time taking Menopur. Any side effects or experience anyone wants to share?

Re: IUI #3 is a go! Any Menopur advice?

  • The big thing people talk about with Menopur is the burn you experience when the medication is going in. I don't think the needle hurts more than any other injectable, but the burn is definitely there. Some say ice helps to reduce the discomfort, but it didn't do much for me. I did find that it helped a bit to wait a few minutes after you mix the Menopur to do the injection. That seemed to reduce some of that sting.

As far as side effects, Menopur gave me some flu-like symptoms. It's nothing too horrible, but it can be a little alarming to think you are coming down with the flu in the beginning of your cycle! I don't know how common it is to experience these symptoms, but I had that particular side effect all three times.

Best of luck with your cycle!

  • Yay for your next IUI! I loved Menopur. I didn't feel any burning with it but I know a lot of people have that. As far as I could tell I didn't have any side effects (but I took it with IVF so I was taking multiple meds). I was a moody mess with just about everything else.
  • Yay!! GL!!

  • I've used various injectables, including menopur, and didn't notice any huge difference from one to the other. Acupuncture really helped me with the bloating and other side effects of an IVF cycle, though.
