Unibrow poll

Random post here!

I was teased really bad in school for having a unibrow and I finally started tweezing when I was in 6th grade. I can already tell J and K have unibrows. Their dad has some woolly eyebrows too!

If your LO has a really bad unibrow, would you just let them take care of it when they're old enough to tweeze themselves, or will you help them take care of it when they're younger, say 5 to 7 years old? What's appropriate here? I'm obviously not talking about tweezing a baby. Only school age kids.

Sorry for the randomness of this post. Just curious where the O12 moms stand on this!

Re: Unibrow poll

  • mbm, I was bullied too, and I only have miserable memories from elementary school. Even kindergarten! Some might think I'm rediculous for thinking about this, but I have good reasons. I like what you said about teaching them to love their flaws.

  • I feel like it's a tough call... you don't want them teased, but you don't want to teach them to get rid of flaws... I'd probably let it ride unless it was something you knew was causing real problems.

  • This reminds me of the controversy with Farrah (from teen mom, for those that don't watch the show lol) and her daughter lol. It's definitely a tough call. I never had issues, and I don't see my daughter having them, but I woulnt want her to be teased if it was something I could fix. But then again, I don't want her to think she should have to change everything about her to fit in. I will say that I'm taking her to a salon to get them shaped and waxed properly so she has a guide for when she starts plucking, this will probably be in her teens. My mom never helped me with this and I plucked all of my eyebrows off practically.

See that issue was different for me. Farrah's reasoning was "good hygiene" and to make her prettier. She is already pretty and except for a bath that kind of "hygiene" is unnecessary still. If Sophia was legit getting teased by classmates constantly i would have been less critical of it.

Oh, I completely agree! Farrah is a dumba$$

  • That's really rough to say, I guess like the PPs I would try to establish and encourage confidence and that everyone can be teased for something and a unibrow is bo different than anything else.I am actually dealing with this right now with one of my stepsons, teasing can go both ways and nobody wins. He is getting teased cause he hasnt lost any baby teeth Anyways I don't think I would let them actually tweeze when they are younger but maybe little by little tweeze a few hairs here and there. My best friend growing up had a unibrow, I never cared cause that's just how I knew her but when we got to middle school she was teased. Well one day she tweezed the whole middle area and then she was made fun of for fixing it. Soon after she told all the boys to eff off, she likes it this way and to leave her the hell alone, and mind you we were only 11.
  • I might get flamed for this but if Stella has my unibrow I plan to tweeze them as soon as she asks me to.  That's the key though - she has to approach me about it.  I will never mention it or suggest it.  I was teased a little about mine in 5th grade, and I came home crying.  My mom asked me what was wrong.  I told her and she introduced me to the tweezers that night and explained that she thought I was beautiful and didn't need it, but if it was something I wanted to do then she would show me how.  I plan to do the same with my daughter.

  • I would totally take her to get it waxed when shes five...that is if she wants it.  I want my kids to accept their flaws but this one thats an easy fix and one she would most likely be doing when she was twelve anyways.

  • yeah Farrah also made a "personal video" of her having sex

    with a porn star...in a studio...with professional cameras...

    uh, yeah.

  • Guess I'll be the minority. It won't be a tough choice for me. I won't be grooming my child until its age appropriate. To me that's not 12 and sure as hell isn't 5. I'll teach her to be bigger than bullies and not let then run her.
  • My oldest inherited her daddy's unibrow... I elected to start getting it waxed when she was seven. Her daddy also has his waxed regularly. She doesn't get her brows shaped, just has the "caterpillar" removed. Generally we only have to have it done every five months.

Feel free to flame away, but kids get bullied for lots of reasons and this was an easy fix... She has plenty of healthy self esteem and although we currently live in a culture that is ok with the unibrow, she was not.

This is amazing. I'm totally doing this. I never knew you could pluck your eyebrows until my mom attacked me one night in 7th grade with a pair of tweezers and said, "I can't take it anymore!" Honestly it had been embarrassing me for years and I never said anything about it, so I was only upset that she didn't do it sooner! So I might suggest it to DD if it gets bad in elementary school, but only the unibrow part. I'll tell her about shaping in middle school.
