We have 2 babygates in our house, one to the basement and one to the second level of our house which is only 5 steps (we have a split level). The "good" baby gate goes to the basement, obviously, but the other one is an older one we had for the dogs where the latch kind of sucks. DD has figured out how to open it so I've kind of given up on actually using that one. She loves to go up the stairs and is really good at it. It's the coming down I should worry about when she decides to do it. I just feel I'm not as worried about her falling as I probably should be since we haven't bothered to fix the latch or get another gate.
Re: FFFC
Today I'm trying to get some shopping done, house work, laundry and party planing. So I'm not being a stealer mom today either.
I used to talk sh!t about people that threw their child a first birthday party.... I thought it was self-important and over the top....
I am having a first birthday party for DD. Is it self-important? Yes, it is, but I don't care. We had a period where we thought we might not ever get to bring home a healthy baby, so I am going to celebrate our first year with our miracle.

Kids may not remember it but in my experience my older kids both loved their bday parties. We do a lot of first because its a good experience not because they remember it a first bday party is the same. I'm not flaming you for think people who do are doing it for selfish reasons just saying I don't think it is selfish of you to have a party for lo.
Baby gates? I'm using a dog x-pen as a baby gate for a really wide doorway

Thanks, belle. I just acknowledge that a 1 year old's party is more for the parents to celebrate the first year together than it is for the 1 year old. I am pretty sure DD is going to be overwhelmed, but I definitely want her to be able to look back at pictures of the party and see the effort we put into it for her because we love her
Things are different before you have kids. I totally eye-rolled the 1st birthday party and now I get it.
