Still deciding on a name!!! 7 weeks to go!
My husband originally suggested Leonard. It was my grandfather's first name and my father's middle name. I like it, it's got that old-man appeal without being too common.
However, there are two cons, ONE I'm not a huge fan of the nicknames associated with it (Leo or Len/Lennie). I guess they aren't that bad, but I'm not totally in love with them.
Second, since it's a name from my family I'm worried that when we have another child my husband's family will expect us to name it after someone on their side, and I really don't like any of those names. I don't want to feel obligated to balance the scales so to speak.
The other names still on the table
Henry Gordon and Emmet James. Neither of these have any family significance except I have an uncle named James but he's not very close and James is a super common MN.
So what are your thoughts?
Re: Leonard WDYT?
I really like Henry Gordon. It's adorable. Emmet James is cute too, though Emmet isn't really my style. I prefer both those names over Leonard though. I don't like Len/Lennie, but I DO really like Leo. Could you just name him Le
I like Leonard/Leo. And your other two names are on my list, so I like them too. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
My DD's name is kind of like my grandma's name (DD is just Lily and my Grandma is Lillian). M
I think Henry Gordon is really cute, especially going the route of "old-man" but still modern enough and not common. Even Henry James is nice, I think.
Leonard is NMS. It's not a bad name, though, and I think "Leo" is a cute NN.

I like Leonard. It's my FIL's name.
FWIW, we have only used a name from my side of the family. No pressure whatsoever to use anything from DH's side, although, BIL and SIL have used a name from DH's side of the family.
We
Personaly, I think Leonard is a really hard name to give someone...I do not like it even a little.
I LOVE Emmett James - but I have this think with initial NN's and would call him EJ!
I really like Leonard but I can see your point about a nn. Have you considered Leon?
I also like Henry Gordon.
It was our #1 choice for our son! (Henry was #2) But our son was adopted at birth and we gave his birth parents veto power...Leonard is her cat's name, so she tought that would be weird, and we went with a totally different name (not Henry either).
Henry Gordon for sure. Or even Henry James. While I'm not a huge fan of Emmett, I much prefer it to Leonard.
I like older, classic names, but I do not like Leonard and I don't like any of the nn's for it either. Henry Gordon i
I love your Henry Gordon and Emmett James ideas.
My favorite grandfather was named Leonard, and for this reason we considered it, but even he went by his middle name rather than be called Leonard. Like you, I like Leo, but I just couldn't
