I am normally just a lurker, and I realize there's probably some protocol I'm supposed to follow with introducing myself and what not. So here it is. Husband and I have been married for 4-1/2 years and just started trying last October. We got our first BFP last November, and two days later I started my period and we lost it....a possible CP. If I hadn't been POS every single morning, I wouldn't have known I was PG.
I got another BFP a couple of weeks ago, and am about 6 weeks along now. I had my first US yesterday and we had a fetal pole and heartbeat (can I say wow?! I could see it on the screen, had to tell myself to blink! What an amazing moment.). The heartbeat was 95, which they said was low based on the first day of my last period. But I ovulated late because my cycles have been around 40 days - I've been charting, and I ovulated around day 22 or 23, a detail which they kept glossing over when talking about "where I should be." She kept saying, "well, we're just going to go by the first day of your last period." Okaaaaayyyyy.....
Here's the deal. The nurse practitioner wanted to immediately put me on progestrone without testing my levels because of the CP. I am very hesitant to go with medical intervention unless it's absolutely necessary. I hate pills. I realize they serve a very important purpose sometimes and I've certainly taken my fair share. They took blood and got the results back this morning, and my progesterone level was a 17. She said they were looking for something more like 30 and still wants me on progestrone. Based on what I've read, 17 is an OK number. It was also shortly after I'd eaten lunch, and apparently that number tends to be lower around that time. I have had ZERO complications thus far, just the the usual pregnancy symptoms.
I have an appointment with a midwife in a couple of weeks, and put in a call to her today to see what she thinks. But what about everyone else? Any advice? I know that for some women the supplements are necessary, but in a case like mine, I just don't feel like it's needed and I would rather just let nature take it's course unless we find out that I am truly not producing enough to keep the baby. I'm torn, and would really appreciate some input. Thanks for taking the time to read this novella!
Re: low progestrone....or not?
Coming from someone who is on progesterone supplements b/c I DO have low progesterone, I would do it. That's just me though. 17 is not "bad" but it's not really as high as they like to see it. My doctor told me he wants over 20 and mine was only 8.7 so
