DD is 26 months and Saturday night woke up with a fever in the middle of the night. We had her sleep with us the rest of the night. Sunday she slept almost all day and we kept the fever down with Tylenol and or Advil but it always returned once it wore off. She also had zero appetite. No vomit, not diarrhea, no other symptoms. Just tired and wont eat. She did occasionally say her stomach hurt but never seemed in any real pain.
Monday she woke with a fever of 103 and DH stayed home with her and took her to the Pedi. They tested for Flu and Strep, both negative checked her ears, nose, throat, etc and said all seemed fine and must be a virus and to keep doing what we are doing. But to bring her back if we reach 6 days with the fever (which will be Friday) or if the fever goes over 106.
So we have been in a constant cycle with the fever ranging from 102-104 ever since and bringing it down with tylemol/advil and having it come right back up. When it is down she is content but definitely not herself. She will color, watch TV, or play with dolls quietly. When it is up she is clingy, irritated, and tired. And still will not eat much (she has lost 1.5 lbs) She is only 25 lbs normally, so she is small for her age as it is...
I am going crazy here! If she had other symptoms I would be more convinced that it is just a bug and she will get over it. But this mystery fever has me so concerned. I have tried to check for new teeth coming and cant seem to feel any (she has gotten her 2 year molars on the bottom but not the top yet and she doesn't have any other teething symptoms)
DH and I were talking, and if she still has the fever Friday and we take her to the Pedi, what will they do for her? Blood tests? Those results will obviously take until after the weekend to come through... We have considered just taking her to the ER so we could have any test results right away... But we don't want to take it too seriously if we don't need to... I guess I am asking, WWYD, and have any of you had this happen to your LO?
Sorry this was long. I wanted to give the full story to avoid having to answer too many questions for more info... Thanks for reading! and TIA for any help you may have to offer.
Re: Fever for Four Days? Going Crazy Here!
I'd go back to the pedi before the weekend just to be on the safe side. Maybe she has an ear infection or something they missed because it was just at the beginning. Couldn't hurt to take her back.
This is what I was thinking. Sometimes we don't know what the illness was until the fever breaks and some other symptom shows up. I think 3 to 5 days of fever isn't atypical.
