Baby Names

neighbors dog...

So my neighbors dogs name is Hudson. I've always liked it for a possible boy name. They got him maybe 2 yrs ago? We see them here and there, not besties or anything. They call him Huddy most of the time.

Well, im 6 weeks out, team green, and we STILL cant commit to names.

Is it weird to name your baby the same name as your neighbors dog? Would you do it? I cant decide if i should leave it on the list or not....

Re: neighbors dog...

  • I would have to take Hudson off my list if my neighbors used it for their dog.  Yes, even if I didn't see the dog that much.

  • I'd leave it off the list unless you love it so much that you can't live without it.

  • Yeah, I don't think I could have my baby have the same name as any dog I knew, let alone one next door, even if it was a name I really liked.

  • Yes it's weird.  Sorry!
  • I actually don't have an issue with it if it's your neighbor's dog and not your own.  They may not be your neighbor forever, and the dog certainly won't be around forever.  If it were your dog, you'd have all sorts of associations with the name,

  • I really don't think it's a big deal. They probably won't be your neighbors forever. If you love it, you should use it.

  • I wouldn't care, if it was a name I loved. But my name is Lucy and I know more dogs with that name than people, so I guess I'm used to that kind of thing.  :)

  • If I liked the name enough I would not be dissuaded because of my neighbors dog.
  • Maybe have it as a backup name, but not a front runner.

  • Since it's not your dog or your parent's I don't think it's a big deal. They probably won't be your neighbors forever.

I know people who named their daughter Lucy and have a neighbor whose dog is Lucy.
My H likes the name Hank but there is a dog named Hank down the street from us and a little boy named Henry down the street the other direction.
    I think this
  • Nah... it's a dog. And not your dog, at that. I say go for it.

  • That wouldn't stop me from using the name I loved. Best friend's dog, maybe. My dog, yes.

  • If it was my own dog, no, I wouldn't but someone else's dog, yeah, I'd be fine with it.

There are so many human-named dogs these days, it's hard to avoid.
