Moms with a toddler at home

Hey ladies we have made the decision to transition DS to a toddler bed (we have the convertible crib) and eventually to a twin bed so we can have the crib for the new baby. My question is, when would be the best time in your opinion to start the transition? We do have a bassinet to use for the first few months. TIA

Ps. DS turned two the end of February.

  • Is he switching bedrooms too? I'd do it sometime between now and 10 weeks before your due date, based on his readiness. If he is switching rooms, I'd be more concerned about that transition than his actual sleeping location. When we moved DD to a bed she

  • I don't see why you don't try it now? My DS turned 2 in February also and we transitioned him over the Christmas holidays.

  • DD went into a full-sized bed (my bed from childhood) straight from her convertible crib toddler bed at age 2.  She was thrilled and started sleeping so much better.  I would do it now to allow plenty of time for him to adjust and it won't seem

  • I'd do it now...or maybe when you are up to it.  My daughter transitioned well around 2, but I know it takes some kids a while to adjust.  It's more about you being mentally prepared to take it on if it ends up being a difficult adjustment. &nbs

  • In your case I would skip the "toddler" bed and go straight to a twin bed.

DD started climbing out of her crib at 18 months so she's been in a toddler bed since then. Once we move in June, she'll get a twin bed to get ready for #2.

  • We moved ds1 into a new room and new twin size bed right after his 2nd birthday and about 4 months before his little brother came along.  He was very excited to get a big boy bed and took to it right away (we used rails for quite so time, he's a w

  • My DD turned two at the beginning of Feb and we switched her to her toddler bed. She did amazing! I was very surprised. She's only fallen off it once. For the first couple weeks I took an old comforter and put it there. It had some small rails at the top,

  • DS is in the converted toddler bed now. As soon as I hit 2nd tri he's going in the regular bed. I don't want him to feel like his life is changing BECAUSE there's a baby on the way. So I'm trying to make all those last little transitions before it gets to
  • Thank you ladies for all your advise it has helped a lot! Looks Like Hubby setting up  the big boy bed this weekend lol.

  • I would say if you feel DS is ready for the big boy bed, then do it. But in my experience, you have to DO IT and not look back. Take down the crib so it's not an option. We made the mistake of leaving ours up and DS never wanted to sleep in the other b
