Baby Names

Holland

I saw a post in my newsfeed from another baby website and the baby girls name was Holland. Thoughts on this name? I suppose the nn could be Holly?

Re: Holland

  • My husband is from Holland, so it's kinda weird to me.  But no on the girl. If anything, I would say boy. But I don't really like it.

  • I have a friend who just named her 4th girl Holland May. Not my style, but it's not as bad as some names I have heard.

  • I prefer Holland over Brooklyn. It's not terrible but not a favorite of mine
  • I generally like place names, but not this one.  I would say only use it if you have ties to Holland somehow.

  • I know a girl named Holland who is so awesome! So now I have a good feeling about this name.  Her nn which she says is only used by her friends is Holls.  I also have a friend that will be naming her daughter Holland.

  • One of my childhood friends just named her baby girl Holland Grace...not a fan of naming people after places. She same girl also named her dog Sydneigh (spelled like that!)

  • As a name, it makes me think of this actress. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holland_Taylor

There are worse people to share a name with.

  • I am probably in the minority here but I really like it! It's unique but not a made up, smooshed name. I've considered this name for a daughter because my husband and I had an amazing trip to Holland last summer.

  • Honestly- I kinda like it.  I also like the NN Holly with it.
  • I kind of like it...i couldn't use it but I like it ok. It does remind me of the "Welcome to Holland" essay, but that is not a bad thing.

  • I know a Holland and never thought much of it. I do think, if you are naming after a place, you should at least avoid places that end in "land"! I actually think Vienna is kind of pretty.
  • I'd spell it differently. Like, Holland. Oh wait.

Yeah, I like the name just fine. It's better than 7/9 of the names out there now.

  • I Like it!  There are plenty of names that are pretty common that are also places. With that being said, I don't love trendy names and I think Holland is getting trendy - I have two under two in my neighborhood.
