So my husband and I are new to this and have only gotten bits of information from others. So who better to ask than you ladies. I think I remember a few of you saying you either have rentals or rent. So if you could help, I'd really appreciate it!

For those that are landlords ...

What kind of process did you go through to rent out your house/condo? Did you do a credit check? Did you have to go through the township? Did you have to get special insurance? Any advice?

For those that are renters...

What kind of lease did your landlord have you sign? Was it really detailed? Did you have a lot of rules? Did they check your credit?

I was a property manager for 5 years. We did a credit and background check. We didn't let sex offenders be tenants and we also checked the national terrorist listing. Also, my tenants had to  financially qualify in order to rent. Their rent could not

We are renters and our landlords use a property management company.  Our lease was 8 pages, but the basics of it are that.

1. We must follow the HOA rules

2. We must notify the management company within 24 hours of any damages/issues t

It varies between states so it might be worthwhile to ask a realtor friend or contact your local board of realtors.
