Officially preggo and needing OB recs

Hi all!  Excited to finally be back!! :)  We are pregnant and due Dec. 29th and so excited.  After trying to 20 months, we were successful after 1 round of femara/hcg/iui!! Hooray!!  My RE clinic will be "graduating" us in a few weeks and so I am needing some recommendations for a great OB.  I will be considered high risk and live in Mead (north of Longmont) but I am willing to drive a little bit for the right doctor.  Also any hospital recommendations?  Longmont united does not seem to get great reviews and I cannot find any for Exempla Good Sam.  Any info would be awesome!! :)

  • Avista Adventist Hospital is where I am delivering - I have heard its amazing.  It is in Louisville.  Its a smaller hospital, their maternity ward is like a spa - mothers who have delivered here rave about it.

My Dr. is amazing.  Dr. Karen Spears at  Avista Women's Care.  I found her through the recommendations on HealthGrades, and am so happy I did!

     Good luck and congrats!!

  • I go to the Women's Health Group over in Lafayette and we're delivering at Good Sam. We did our pre-registration/tour of the L&D floor last week and were super impressed. The labor rooms are HUGE, the postpartum rooms are pretty good sized as well. They're the first baby-friendly hospital in Colorado, which means they support breast feeding, 24-hour in room for your baby instead of in a nursery, and they also provide a postpartum massage if you want one. Oh, AND they send you home with a dinner for 4 when you check out!

  • I am delivering at Avista and see Dr Moeller at Avista Women's Care.

  • Who are you seeing at WHG?  Have you been happy with the staff?  I think that's where I'm leaning towards but I've heard some not so great things about their staff. :). Good Sam does look awesome. :)
  • I usually see Dr. Eastman-Gallo, but being so close to popping out this peanut, they have you start to see all the doctors so you know who they are in case one them is the on-call doc when you go into labor. I haven't had any problems with any of them nor have I had any problems with their staff. I think it will depend on what you're looking for. Dr. Eastman-Gallo isn't the type to "hold your hand" and treat you with kid gloves type of doctor. She's more than willing to answer your questions but she doesn't try to coddle you just because you are pregnant. They are also much more "traditional" than a lot of other practices from what I've heard. By this I mean although they are willing to support non-medicated births, they will let you know if they think you should take the drugs. If there are specific questions or things you've heard about them I can try to answer your questions?

  • Congrats!!! I too delivered at Avista with Dr. Spears. I loved my whole experience!! All the nurses were amazing.
  • I would recommend my obgyn office, but I think Wheat Ridge is a little too far for you. I have heard great things about Good Sam.

But also, congrats to you! Are you on the Dec. 13 board? I'm due on Dec. 10th!

P.S. I grew up in Longmont. We have some things in common. :)

  • I agree, Dr Karin Spears at Avista in Louisville is amazing, so is her midwife - Janis
  • The Women's Health group in Thornton is much better than than the Lafayette office. They deliver at North Suburban, which is smaller, but the Dr's and nursing staff have been around a while and they have so much experience!!  As a nurse myself, I would recommend, in this order, North Suburban, St. Joe's, Avista and then Good Samaritan.
