Threatened miscarriage

I went to the hospital yesterday because I was convinced I was miscarrying. I had excessive bleeding and when I went to the bathroom, I passed something. I tried to see what it was but my urine was to dark with blood to be able to see anything. At the hospital they ran their myriad of tests and did an ultrasound. It was then that I saw my sweet peanut kicking the feet and waving the arms. I'm still scared that I'll miscarry and the blood is still pretty excessive. I go see my regular doctor tomorrow, but I'm still really scared. Any advice that you have would be greatly appreciated. I have to work so bed rest is not an option for me. ideas or suggestions?

ask them to check for a subchorionic hematoma. it's very common (i have one) and normally goes away, but it can and does cause bleeding in healthy pregnancies.

  • Well if it was me in your situation then i would listen and do bed rest. Even if i was to loose my job over it the well being of my baby being safe and healthy is more important.

  • Hi Kim, I carnt give much advice but I have been passing blood for 3 days now. I thought I was 8 weeks but I'm 5. I had a scan today and they could only detect the sac. So I'm felt unknown about what is going on, I have another scan in 2 weeks.

  • First, I'm sorry you went through that and felt scared enough to go to the hospital.

Unless you are actively hemmoraging (going through an overnight pad in one hour or less) then the ER can do nothing for you. They will always classify your situ

  • Checking your progesterone level isn't a bad idea.  Do you have a regular ob that could do this?

  • I am not trying to be a downer hercules, I hope everything is okay, but they saw no heartbeat and the baby was measuring a week behind and they are still testing your hcg?

  • Well I had no idea when they should see a heartbeat as they said 9-10 weeks so I did not think about it then but after seeing a number of people who already have theirs I questioned but to update I don't have a happy ending, My Hcg today had dropped to 20
  • Chi Amy this was directed at Kim who had not said what week she was that is why I said how far along I was for specifics so downer or no downer you are not God. and since you know everything when should they see heartbeat and when should they test Hcg.

  • I know it was, I am just surpised at your doctor. I had the same exact situation as you and was told I had a miscarraige.

to the OP you should be able to see a heartbeat at 6-7 weeks, but everyone is different

  • I didn't have to ask, they pointed it out, but it's still disconcerning.

  • I am 10 weeks now. It was red, turned to brown and finally stopped today. This is the 2nd time in 10 weeks it has happened.
