Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Play Yard or Gate or Something Else??

I feel like I could post a million questions on these boards sometimes!  This question concerns what to do when your baby gets more mobile.  My LO (6 1/2months) isn't officially crawling yet, but he's getting close and really making his way around when he's on the floor.  I want to be able to leave him for a bit to do housework/laundry etc. and feel good knowing he's safe to play and move around (like when he's in his crib).  What's the next step here?  We have a big blanket on the floor, but he manages to find his way off the blanket of course.  Is a Play Yard a good idea?  Or some sort of gate to block off a play area?  I don't want to leave him in his crib a lot, but I'm thinking a Play Yard will be like a crib. Any other suggestions or ideas out there?  Thanks everyone!  Have a great day!!!

  • DD1 was never a huge fan of her play yard - there just wasn't much space for her to move around, so we got this: (we got it at BRU)

  • We have the Joovy play yard and it's huge. She loves being in it with all her toys. I can shower and do some chores while she's in there. With a gate my house will still have one or two chords she'll find or dog toys, etc. I'll never be able to totally ge

  • It sounds like you are just having some anxiety about moving to the next phase of babyhood!

I would definitely skip the play yard. You won't need it for a long time, anyway. Probably best to start baby proofing. We have a gate for our kitchen an
