1st Trimester

I lifted something heavy. Should I worry?

My dog got into something in the backyard and without even thinking I picked him up and took him upstairs to the bathroom to rinse him off. I'm 8 weeks pregnant. He weighs about 45 or 50 pounds. I have some mild lower back and some hip pain but I don't know if that's from lifting him or from normal pregnancy pains as my uterus grows and my hips widen. I have no bleeding and I don't think any cramping. However now I'm freaking out. Should I be worried? I'm such an idiot. I not used to being pregnant yet and picked him up without thinking.

Re: I lifted something heavy. Should I worry?

  • I don't think you need to worry, but when in doubt, call your OB.

When I was newly pregnant with my first, I moved a desk by myself to the end of our driveway to get rid of it.  Afterwards, I thought "Hm, maybe not my brightest move".

  • The heavy lifting guidelines are almost always meant to protect YOU, not the baby.  During pregnancy your ligaments are much looser and your center of gravity is off as you get larger.

  • Are you used to lifting your dog? Meaning, did you do it on the regular prior to being pregnant? If that is the case then don't worry about it. The lifting isn't a danger to your pregnancy as much as it is to your back etc. Any weight restrictions on lift

  • Thank you all for helping put my mind at ease! I still haven't had any bleeding I think I'm ok. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow so double check with her. Hopefully everything really is ok.

  • I wouldn't worry about it, lifting is usually more a concern in the third trimester so as to not onset labor or throw off your center of gravity. I know how you feel about picking up your dog though, ours is about 80 pounds and only 7 months old, and stil

  • You are fine, especially since you lift him regularly. Its all in what you are used to. I lifted 50lb feed bags as part of my job when I was pregnant the first time, never had any issues since I was accustomed to the weight. I squatted 130lbs at the gym th
