Short Term Disability for IVF Treatments?

Does anyone know if being out for IVF qualifies for STD? My RE wrote me out for FMLA for about 4 days before ER till after my 2nd beta comes back. So as of right now its wrote from May 20th, till June 14th. She did this because I work in a high stress work enviroment. I am a 911 dispatcher/call taker for a very busy high perferomance private ambulance company (that is the short version). I also work 12 hr shifts working up to 48 hrs a week and working night shift to boot. So with all the monitoring appts ect... Its just too hard to get off work at 530 am and be at monitoring appts in the middle of my sleep time and be back to work at 530 pm. So my RE wrote on my FMLA that I can not be in a high stress enviroment and will have several medical procedures and continuious monitoring appts all of which I will need to have someone to be with me and help care for me during this time.

My work mainly the HR department hasn't been as helpful or supportive as I had hoped. I am going to use every single bit of vacation time I have on the books, and still be short about 55 hrs. So I'm trying to see if I would qualify for STD durring this time. I know that I have to be out for 1 week before the STD would kick in. I am trying to minmize the amount of money I will be loosing from not being able to work during this time on top of everything else that we are paying 100% OOP.

 Any advice or suggestions would be great!

  • Sorry, no advice.  I work 24 hours on and 48 as a paramedic firefighter.  I worked through my monitoring and 2 week wait.  Good luck.

  • My understanding is that if you are out for your own illness on FMLA, you qualify for disability payments.  In NJ there is a 2 week wait before disability kicks in and then it is approx. 66% of your paycheck.  I would ask the HR dept. for the

    Me (37) DH (39); PCOS changed to Unexplained, changed to DOR in 2012 (finally a correct diagnosis!);
