ASL is overwhelming

We just started signing with DS, and I'm feeling very overwhelmed by the whole thing. I'm really not sure I'm qualified to be this poor kids mom :( I guess we all just do our best, right?

  • ((HUGS)). Take it slow.  Just a few words that you use all the time, like milk, more, mom, and dad, etc...  Make up associations to help you remember signs, works great.

  • If you have a teacher of the deaf or an SLP ask them for a couple blank copies of the MacArthur-Bates Language Inventory. It is a checklist of common words listed in categories (Food, toys, clothes, outside things, household items).
