1st Trimester

Weight Gain in Tri 1

I am 6 and 1/2 weeks and have gained a couple pounds. Isn't that too early to be gaining weight? This is my first pregnancy. I am watching what I eat, so I don't understand why my pants aren't fitting me. Seems way too early. My breasts are changing rapidly as well.

  • I am 5 1/2 weeks and I am experiencing the same thing. I think the feeling chubby for me is mostly bloating, but I have gained a few pounds.

  • You can gain from water retention/bloating in the first tri, which is also why your pants get snug. Don't worry about it, it's ok!

  • Thanks for the responses! Makes me feel more at ease.
  • I'm right there with you at 6.5 weeks and I figured the few pounds I've put on are mostly due to all of the lovely bloating going on :) Trying not to get hung up on it!

  • As others have said, bloating and water retention are very common early in pregnancy.  I would not stress about being a few pounds up on the scale.  Especially if you are making healthy food choices.
  • 2-6 lbs in the first tri is considered 'normal'. From my experience though some people tend to gain more early and slow down later in the pregnancy and vice versa.  Not everyone will fall into the normal range at any given time during pregnancy but i

  • My weight has been all over the place. I have been trying to make good food choices though so I know it's just from bloat and normal fluctuation.

Drink lots of water, eat good, and try to not get so hung up on it.<span style="font-siz

  • With my last pregnancy I gained most of my weight in the first tri thanks to my constant need for carbs and snacking to combat morning sickness, and very little in the rest.
  • It's probably the bloat. It's hard to weigh yourself all the time throughout the first trimester b/c it's not going to be all that accurate. I fluctuated with DS last time and around 12 weeks, I had gained 4 pounds for the whole 1st trimester. I would say

  • I've actually lost a few pounds but feel extremely bloated.
  • I'm just finishing up my 1st Tri, and I have gained between 4-5 pounds depending on the day. So far from what I can tell that's normal.
