Opinions on discipline?

+

My daughter is 16 months old and is starting this "hitting" phase. I am a preschool teacher and in my classroom, you hit a friend, you get a warning, talked to, etc., and if you do it again you have to pick up your toys and go play at a table by yourself until you can control your body. I know my daughter is not old enough to understand that, but she has started hitting and getting frustrated with her friends at daycare as she is about a month and a half away from aging out of her current classroom (and there are a LOT of young ones in her class right now, like 8 month olds).

She does hit me at home and has tried to bite on a few occasions, when I give her a firm NO she laughs and thinks it's a game. I want to nip this in the butt at home so she will learn early! Help!

  • I teach "gentle".  I say it then demonstrate it. Then I move on.

If he has done something really nasty like scratching or pinching I will grab his hands get close to his face and firmly say, "No."  Then I say and demonstrate "gentle" o

  • We learned the word gentle and I 'pet' her face with my hand so she understands what that means. She's now able to repeat the word and gesture and knows what it is. I also give a very firm NO and both my kids know I mean business when I say it and 'give t
  • DD2 is not a hitter, but DD1 had her moments. We would hold her hand and tell her, "Hitting is not a good choice, but nice touches are a great choice" and then help her give a nice/gentle touch, like a pat on the arm. If she kept hitting, we would remove

  • I teach gentle touch, and if I'm holding them - like if we're reading - and they keep hitting then I'll say "if you don't stop hitting then I'll have to put you down" and if they hit me again I put them down. Then they cry and I say "I can't hold you i

  • All of the above, but we are also mindful of why it's happening. Did she realize she did it (such as playing wildly with toys)? Is she over-tired? Is she annoyed and wants to be left alone and we aren't picking up for it.

  • My DD started biting a few months ago. I tell her "no bite" and put her down. She gets upset b/c I put her down, so I keep saying "no bite" and then eventually pick her up again. She then tells me "no bite."

I also got her a book about biting, an
