Dry cough vs Whooping cough?

Is there a way to tell the difference?  DS has all the symptoms of a cold plus a dry cough, which is how whooping cough can manifest itself.  He's been vaccinated for it (whooping cough = pertussis), but I'm still a little worried :{

Whooping cough sounds like a seal barking.

If it is whooping cough there would be a rapid series of the coughing followed by a rapid intake of air (the "whoop.")  If your son has been fully vaccinated it is not very likely he would have contracted whooping cough.

Croup is the seal barking sound...not sure about whopping cough but like the other pp said it is very unlikely if he has been vaccinated.  Have you tried a vaporizor?
