bacterial infection - prescribed medication that says 'do not take if pregnant'

I just had my 12 week sono which was amazing! my baby was sucking its thumb and it was just beautiful!

Anyway, my dr told me I have a bacterial infection. He tried to prescribe me some form of penicillin to which I informed him I was allergic, so instead he prescribed me Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim pills. On the bottle it says 'DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT'

I assume my dr is no idiot, however, I proceeded to call his office to double check before taking any pills. He was unfortunately in with a patient and could not speak but will be calling me back shortly.

I am just curious if any of you have taken this medication while pregnant or had a similar situation?

You could call the pharmacy in the meantime.

It don't blame you for double checking but I am sure your doc wouldn't prescribe you something that is a harmful to your baby.   I swear they put that warning on everything now a days!  I had a bacterial infection too and was prescribed a medica

Mistakes happen. I would wait for him to get back to you before you take it. I have not taken this med and I would not if that is what the bottle said.

Is the brand name bactrim?? I am having to take that right now and they said while its not their first choice that the benefit outweighs the risk . I'm still nervous but I know that treating the infection is what has to be done!
