Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby boy, "down there", problem...

I was changing my soon to be 6 month old son, and as usual routine, when wiping I clean around his privates and pull back the fold like I was told to from his ped. doctor. I noticed that when the fold was pulled back, there was some redness around the rim of the head of his penis and some blotchy irritation just below that. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to get rid of it before needing to take him in?

  • Have you tried Baby Aquaphor? It helps us on all things red down there.

I would use Aquaphor too! That stuff is awesome.

  • Lansinoh lanolin, it's for breast feeding but works amazing on baby rashes
  • Had the same issue with my 6 month old son!  I just used a little Babyganics brand type of vasoline and it went away in a few days.  Put some on with each diaper change.  I think it was just irritation from the diaper and pee, but it did freak me out!  And it was on the rim of the head of his penis too.

Is he circumcised or not? I always thought you were NOT supposed to pull back the foreskin if he's not circumcised....

Yeah if he's in tact, do NOT pull back the skin.  If he's circd then aquafor or plain old desitin.

Yep, this. My OB told us we should pull back the skin, but we researched it and asked our pedi during his first wellness visit and he told us we shouldn't. There is a lot of bad information out there that says you should, though.

  • Sorry for taking so long to get back on here, not too often I have time to be on the computer. Yes, he is circumcised. His "situation" is now better and healed. Actually the day after this, it cleared up with out any ointments. Thankfully. BUT, I have purchased the suggested items that some of you mentioned on here for future reference. Thank you all for the help. :)
