Getting Rid of Paci?

Is anyone cutting out pacifiers yet? DS only uses his when he is going to sleep or sometimes in the car. He's only 10 months and not the kind of kid who wants it all the time, so I hadn't really worried about giving it up until lately. His new wake-up game is to toss any pacifier he can find out of the crib. At first, he would put it out whatever side he could find. Now he always tosses them out the wall-side of the crib, so the get hung up on the cribskirt and eventually wind up under the crib. (For the longest time I thought I was just losing pacifiers until I figured out where they were all trapped.) Several times I have started to put him down for bedtime or a nap and found no paci's b/c he's tossed them all again. I'm considering not using them anymore, but I'm not sure if it's a bridge I want to cross yet. I guess I fear the unknown...Will he still sleep well? Will he fight it for days or weeks? I would love to hear from anyone else who has already tackled this.
